Margaret Mead, the anthropologist said: “Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” …And we are blown away at how you guys have changed our world! Honestly, when I put the “wish list” up on Saturday, I never dreamed that everything would get taken within 50 hours! I will never doubt you again! J Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! You cannot even know what a blessing you have been to us.
A brief update on Richard…
Well, tomorrow is the “one month” mark! Time flies when you’re having fun, right? Yeah. Anyways, Richard is learning so much here at Shepherds about how to do things and care for himself. Yesterday he was thirsty and told me “I’m going to the nourishment center to get a drink, can I bring you back anything?” …I’m glad to have my slave back. :)
George and I are learning so much as well, so that we can know how to assist him when he needs it. We are all in classes and hands-on-training everyday for most of the day, even weekends. We now know how to get from bed to chair and back, clean wounds, do skin care, do baths, bathroom, and exercises, just to name a few.
Richard got his staples out of his arm and legs yesterday, and the incisions seem to be healing nicely… As nicely as skin can heal having been stapled together. Richard was a little unnerved when they began using what appeared to be office supplies to remove the staples, but apparently that’s how it works. Paper, skin, same thing. Either way, I think I just might be the most grateful for the staple-removal, because he got to have clean feet and legs for the first time in a month… meaning, I will not have to hold my breath while we do his leg stretches twice a day. :)
The plan was for Richard to come home on Friday, but his return has been delayed a day and he’ll now be coming home on Saturday afternoon. Reason being, the infection he has was resistant to the antibiotics they had been giving him, so he is having to take meds through IV for five days. They started him on them yesterday.
Please pray that his infection will completely be gone by Saturday. Pray that the transition to home will go as smoothly as possible. Also pray that his skin sores and blisters will be healed. And that God will continue to do His thing in all of our hearts and minds.
Thanks again to everyone who bought stuff for Richard’s homecoming! We appreciate you!
