…I know most of your minds are in the gutter… but the title of this entry probably has nothing to do with what you are thinking. :) This morning Richard “flexed” his left quad/thigh! This is the first real movement on his left side! He had wiggled his toes two different times on his left, but it has been a while. And this isn’t a flex that is taking him tons of effort; he can do it when he wants. AMAZING! So, he can flex both his left and right quad now. Also, his right leg is “ticklish” today. The doctor said that this is due to the damaged nerves trying to “fire.” All very good signs!
Also, the swelling in his legs continues to go down, so unless there is an emergency surgery that needs to take place, the doctors have scheduled Richards leg/ankle/foot surgery first thing in the morning! This is a really big surgery. The surgeons did say that there is a 5% chance that will not be able to fix his legs with internal plates and screws, but we all scoff at this 5%. We laugh in its face. We flex our left quads and tell 5% to go chase cars in the street.
Richard is really excited to get this surgery over with. He is so strong and determined. I am definitely proud of him.
So, thanks God for all Richard is feeling and doing so far. Pray that the nerves in his back continue to heal.
Pray that tomorrow mornings surgery will be beyond successful!
And pray that the pain that they anticipate him to be in post surgery will miraculously be minimal.
