21 Down

Today is Richards 21st Birthday! His room is filling with balloons and cards. He loves it. Thanks so much for your support. And he has loved having us read his facebook wall to him :) Thanks for the birthday greetings! One of the nurses said they were sorry he had to spend his birthday with them. He told her that he would have probably ended up here tonight anyways. :)

This morning was a little crazy. Richard has an infection, but it is on antibiotics and we are hoping and praying that the meds will take care of it.

He also had to have a minor surgery this morning. The doctor was concerned because Richard has been unable to move that he may get a blood clot in his legs, and if so, that it might travel to his heart, lungs, or brain. So, what they did, was insert a sort of filter in a big vein below his main organs. The wire, mesh, filter/colander thing will be able to block any large clot that may try to travel up from his legs. It was a completely preventative procedure…no current clots. The filter does however carry with it, many risks; but the risk of a “traveling clot” is much more risky. Please pray that there would be absolutely no bad side affects from the surgery or the filter. Pray that Richard’s body will accept it and that the doctors will be able to easily remove it in the future.

There is still no more update on future orthopedic surgeries. We cannot get anyone to talk to us, or figure out how to get in touch with the right people. We have heard from an attending doctor and his case-worker that the orthopedic surgeons will 100% be by to speak with us tomorrow morning. More news then, hopefully!
